MY BIO
I have no artistic training.
I have no religious training.
I have spent huge chunks of my
life not listening to God.
Yet, I wrote a book on a new
physical type of prayer that asks God to come near
while you make crosses from broken and found
objects.
You know what they say about
God’s mysterious ways.
I spent the first 19 years of my
professional life practicing law. Then I
re-married and moved to Memphis, where I decided
to become a writer. After the tragedy of
September 11, I began making tentative crosses
from stuff I found lying around the house. The
crosses were encouraged by a few kind souls, and
gradually I became intentional about the
practice. The idea for a book emerged and, with
the directed assistance of my publisher, the
book, “Making Crosses: A Creative Connection to
God,” came into being.
I still have my regular life:
keeping the house, tending the yard, writing,
and spending time with my husband and my little
pup. I also show clothes at local fashion
events. My husband and I are growing into a
sustainability theology – eating right,
recycling, keeping a compost pail. This summer,
we’re taking a stab at growing tomatoes. We gain
wisdom and succor from the Memphis School of
Servant Leadership and our church. St. Mary’s
Episcopal Cathedral. One of my favorite
activities is facilitating a weekly writing
group at the Door of Hope, a support center for
men and women who live on the street. We are
currently writing a Door of Hope book. One day,
you will see us on Oprah. |
